Hi! Thank you for your submission question @castleintheskye ! The fancast I used for Theon is Matvey Lykov in I Am Dragon. And if anyone is interested, the Sansa fancast is Dakota Blue Richards in The Secret of Moonacre.

another reason Charlotte Hope in The Spanish Princess and Millie Brady in The Last Kingdom are my favorite adult Sansa and Arya fancasts (besides how well they visually embody the characters) is because of how close in age they are. Sansa and Arya are only ~2 years apart, very close in age, and I usually want fancasts to reflect that. Charlotte Hope is currently 28, while Millie Brady is 26. a perfectly accurate age gap!

now, A Game of Thrones aged Sansa and Arya have been a lot harder for me to decide on, as child fancasts often are. however, after checking out plenty of other people's fancasts + gifsets, I've decided on:

& Raffey Cassidy in Snow White and The Huntsman as Arya

Thank you! I don't tend to have set in stone fancasts for the Starklings but some I have used in the past and I think hit the right vibe are:

Jon -> Kodi Smit McPhee (specifically in that movie where he's alone with a wolf)

Arya -> Josie O' Brien and Rebecca Emilie Sattrup (haven't used this one myself but I like it a lot)

Sansa -> Laoise Murray (I love this one a lot - I also think it portrays her so well during her time as a hostage in KL), Dakota Blue Richards (I'd use this one in younger footage)

Bran, Rickon, Robb -> ???? There's a lack of young gingers in period dramas. Tragic

age appropriate sansa stark fancasting resource

So, as you all know, Sansa is 11 at the start of A Song of Ice and Fire and around the time of AFFC/ADWD she’s around 14. That makes her pretty challenging to fancast and most of the actresses/models that are popularly fancast as her are a good deal older than her actual age in the books. So here, I’m going to share some of my favorite and most popular fancasts for book!Sansa, and tell you where you can find footage for them. This is by no means an exhaustive list and feel free to add your own suggestions! Some of these actors don’t have red hair so if anyone wants a tutorial on how to change someone’s hair color then let me know and I’ll make one.

Note on ages: As a general rule of thumb, movies and tv shows usually film about one year before they’re actually released so that is where I’m getting the ages.

Layla Burns

Layla is a child actress and I can’t find her birthdate online but according to a website called Mandy Acting that seems to represent her she is 14 years old. She appears in the series Outlander (far right) and footage from that show have sometimes been used as a fancast for Sansa. While her outfits in that show don’t really work for book Sansa it can work if you need a gif. She appears in the episodes 3x08 “First Wife” and 4x07 “Down the Rabbit Hole.” However the REAL reason I’m suggesting her is because of a photoshoot she did with Darja Bilyk in 2017 that features several images of her wearing a crown (middle)! Rachel Hurd-Wood

Footage from Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (2006) is sometimes used as a Sansa fancast (middle). Rachel would have been around 15 when that movie was filmed. If you want to go even younger, I suggest going back to Peter Pan (2003) where she would be 12.

Sadie Sink

Sadie Sink is probably the most popular fancast for book age Sansa right now, probably because she’s a teenage actress with red hair who started getting popular around when people first became disillusioned with the show. She is currently 18, has been a child actor since she was 10 and started playing Max in Stranger Things when she was 14. The main downside with Sadie as a fancast is that she hasn’t been in anything that can even remotely resemble period footage, however I’ve noticed quite a few people use this video she did with Miu Miu in their gifsets.

Dakota Blue Richards

Footage used is from the 2008 film The Secret of Moonacre. Dakota would have been around 13.

Mackenzie Foy

Footage from The Nutcracker and the Four Realms (2018) is sometimes used as Alayne. That movie had an unusually long post-production so Mackenzie actually would have been closer to 16 than 17 when it was filmed. Also it is worth mentioning that she is 13 and has red hair in the movie Interstellar (2014, middle).

Isolda Dychauk

At first I wasn’t going to bother including Isolda at all because I figured she had to be in her 20s but she’s actually 17 in the first season of Borgia: Faith and Fear. I consider that to be within the acceptable age range for book!Sansa, plus I have other 17 year olds on this list so I figured I’d include her. Isolda is also popularly fancast as Lysa a lot too. Definitely on the older side but I do like her as Sansa. She is also in the 2011 German film Faust (far right). I haven’t checked it in depth but the movie is set in the 1800s and seems to have some usable footage. You can find clips from the movie by searching for “faust 2011″ on YouTube but the first few videos look like they were recorded with someone’s phone so scroll down a bit.

Other

On the right is Laoise Murray who plays Elizabeth in the fourth season of The Tudors. I’ve seen a couple people use her and she would have been 13. Neither of the other two actors have been used as Sansa fancasts by anyone besides me but I thought it was worth mentioning anyways. Brooke Shields in Pretty Baby (1978, left) is 12 and a lot of the scenes could pass as period footage. I also had the idea of using 10-year-old Liesel Matthews in A Little Princess (1995, middle) as Sansa if anyone wants to try it.

In there she was Arya of Winterfell, the daughter of Lord Eddard Stark and Lady Catelyn, who had once had brothers named Robb and Bran and Rickon, a sister named Sansa, a direwolf called Nymeria, a half brother named Jon Snow.

Sansa could sew and dance and sing. She wrote poetry. She knew how to dress. She played the high harp and the bells. Worse, she was beautiful. Sansa had gotten their mother's fine high cheekbones and the thick auburn hair of the Tullys.

Tortall Fancast Series - Alanna the Lioness

As children, Thom and Alanna were so much alike in face and body shape as to be mistaken for each other, if dressed alike. The only distinguishing feature of the twins at that time was the length of their hair.

Alanna has fiery red hair in the color of copper and bright violet, amethyst colored eyes, the same as the color of her magical Gift. She is quite short, only five feet four inches and has a stocky build. Her heraldic insignia is a lioness rampant, earning her the nickname "Lioness".

By 462 HE fine lines frame her eyes and mouth. Her then shoulder long hair shows strands of grey. She is slightly limping from a wound to the thigh which hasn't completely healed. (x)

NIAMH WALTER - YOUNG SARA (THE HUNTSMAN: WINTER’S WAR)

I can’t find an exact age for Niamh Walter, but she looks to be between 10 and 14, making her within the appropriate range for Page Alan. She wears medieval fighting clothing and very much has an attitude in all the footage I can find. The only hangup is her long hair.

ALICIA MORTON - ANNIE (ANNIE)

Alicia Morton was roughly 12 when filming Annie (1999). The movie’s set in the 1930s, so basically no usable clothing for Alanna, but Alicia has exactly the hair that was on my cover of Alanna: The First Adventure, so I can’t help seeing her as Page Alan.

DAKOTA BLUE RICHARDS - FRANKY FITZGERALD (SKINS)

I like Dakota Blue Richards a lot for Alanna, particularly in this character. She was 15-16 while she was on Skins, and while yet again the setting doesn’t lend itself to period-appropriate clothing, she’s one of the few young redheaded actors I can find who’s playing an androgynous teenager. Perfect for Squire Alan.

SOPHIE TURNER - SANSA STARK (GAME OF THRONES, SEASONS 7-8)

Most of Sophie Turner's Game of Thrones material isn’t a good fit for Alanna, but I was surprised by how well she fits as the newly-made King’s Champion. She was 20-22 during filming for the last two seasons, and she wears heavily armored dresses, as well as heavy cloaks (we all know how Alanna likes to stay warm).

VIRGINIA HANKINS - ACTOR AND MODEL

Virginia Hankins is an actor and a model (as well as many other things, based on her website!) who I love as young Sir Alanna as well. She has a lot of material in armor and on horseback, as well as a few images in medieval gowns (I’m a big fan of making content that acknowledges Alanna’s more feminine side). I don’t know her exact age, but she appears 25-35 in the pictures.

SOPHIA BUZAKOVA - MODEL

I have no idea who this woman is, except that her name appears to be Sophia Buzakova (it’s also possible that her name is Oksana and that Sophia Buzakova is the photographer) and that she makes an unbelievably perfect adult Alanna. More photos from this series can be found here.

JESSICA CHASTAIN - SARA (THE HUNTSMAN: WINTER’S WAR)

As the older counterpart to Niamh Walter’s character (38/39 during filming), Jessica Chastain makes an fancast for Alanna in the Protector of the Small era. One of the things I love about Alanna as a character is that she is a young adult protagonist who is allowed to get old while maintaining her arc. I love that we see her as a middle-aged woman with a career and a family and a personality that is both more mature and consistent with who she was at 11 or 15 or 18. Jessica Chastain wears medieval clothing and fights primarily with a bow in the film.

CATE BLANCHETT - ELIZABETH (ELIZABETH AND ELIZABETH: THE GOLDEN AGE)

Another excellent older Alanna. Cate Blanchett was roughly 38 while filming Elizabeth: The Golden Age, in which she wears a very cool suit of armor. There’s also Renaissance-style footage of her in the film’s prequel, Elizabeth, during which she was in her late 20s. I always love fancasting actors who have material from multiple years, especially for characters who grow and age so much over the course of the books.

sansa stark month 2022: day 3 - snow

She had last seen snow the day she'd left Winterfell. That was a lighter fall than this, she remembered. Robb had melting flakes in his hair when he hugged me, and the snowball Arya tried to make kept coming apart in her hands. It hurt to remember how happy she had been that morning. Hullen had helped her mount, and she'd ridden out with the snowflakes swirling around her, off to see the great wide world. I thought my song was beginning that day, but it was almost done.

Jeyne Poole and all her things were gone when Ser Mandon Moore returned Sansa to the high tower of Maegor's Holdfast. No more weeping, she thought gratefully. Yet somehow it seemed colder with Jeyne gone, even after she'd built a fire. She pulled a chair close to the hearth, took down one of her favorite books, and lost herself in the stories of Florian and Jonquil, of Lady Shella and the Rainbow Knight, of valiant Prince Aemon and his doomed love for his brother's queen. It was not until later that night, as she was drifting off to sleep, that Sansa realized she had forgotten to ask about her sister. (AGOT, Sansa IV)
